Privacy Policy
Last updated: November 19, 2025
This Privacy Policy explains how PastePal (“we”, “us”, or “our”) handles information in connection with the PastePal Chrome extension (the “Extension”) and the website pastepal.app (the “Site”).
PastePal is designed to help you clean and reformat text. We aim to collect as little data as possible and to be transparent about how it is used.
1. Information the Extension Accesses
When you use the PastePal Chrome extension, it may temporarily access the following information in order to provide its functionality:
- Selected text or pasted text. When you click a PastePal button, choose a PastePal context menu item, or use the popup, the Extension reads the text you have selected or pasted so it can clean formatting, convert it to bullet lists, or apply a template.
- Page area where the overlay is shown. If you choose to view a preview overlay, the Extension injects a small UI into the page so you can see and copy the cleaned result.
This information is processed locally in your browser. We do not send the content of your text selections to our own servers.
2. Information Stored by the Extension
The Extension uses Chrome’s built-in storage (such as chrome.storage.sync) to
store limited settings and configuration data, for example:
- Your preferred cleaning behavior (copy immediately vs preview overlay).
- Whether real-estate-optimized cleanup is enabled.
- Custom templates you create and template-related preferences.
- Whether you have seen certain in-product tips or intro messages.
- Your PastePal Pro activation status (e.g., a non-reversible license flag).
This data is stored in your browser profile and may be synced across your devices via Chrome, depending on your browser settings. It is used only to remember your preferences and enable PastePal’s features.
3. Information Collected on the Site
When you visit pastepal.app, we may collect basic information typical for websites, such as:
- Standard server logs (e.g., IP address, browser type, and referring page).
- Pages visited and basic usage information about how you navigate the Site.
If you purchase PastePal Pro or contact us through a form or email, we may also collect:
- Your name and email address.
- License key or order information needed to activate Pro features.
Payment details (such as credit card numbers) are processed by our payment provider (for example, Stripe) and are not stored by us directly.
4. How We Use Information
We use the information described above solely to:
- Provide and improve the functionality of the Extension and the Site.
- Remember your settings and templates between sessions.
- Deliver and manage PastePal Pro licenses and activation.
- Respond to support requests and communicate with you about the product.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data to build advertising profiles, determine creditworthiness, or for any purpose unrelated to the Extension’s single purpose of cleaning and formatting text.
5. Data Sharing
We may share limited information with third-party service providers who help us operate our business, for example:
- Payment processors that handle transactions for PastePal Pro.
- Email or helpdesk providers that help us respond to support requests.
- Hosting providers for the Site.
These providers are only allowed to use the information as needed to provide their services to us and must handle it in a manner consistent with this Policy.
We may also disclose information if required by law, such as in response to a valid legal request from law enforcement or other authorities.
6. Data Retention
Extension settings and templates are stored for as long as you keep the Extension installed or until you remove that data from your browser (for example, by clearing extension data or uninstalling PastePal).
Information related to purchases, licenses, or support communications may be retained as long as reasonably necessary for accounting, legal, and operational purposes.
7. Your Choices
- You can remove the Extension at any time through your browser’s extension settings, which will also remove extension data stored in your browser.
-
You can clear your browser’s stored data to remove settings and templates saved via
chrome.storage. - If you no longer want us to keep your email or license details collected through the Site (where applicable), you can contact us and request deletion, subject to any legal obligations we may have.
8. Children’s Privacy
PastePal is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. If the changes are significant, we may provide additional notice through the Site or within the Extension.
